Practice Judging

Are You Qualified To Be A Judge?

Join the 2019 Judges

There are three rounds in the contest.

In round one entrants submit a 2-minute video describing their game along with a short text description.

You will have access to the full list of submissions and choose which games you want to judge. You will be able to see the designers, game names, and descriptions before you choose to watch the video. Initially you will choose the games you judge based on your interest. This is an important part of the judging process, and benefits games that can accurately communicate to their target audience.

We also try and get a minimum number of judges to view each game. Near the end of judging please focus on games with less views.

After you read the description and view the video, you will fill out a short survey. You will rate the game on a scale of 1-5 in Innovation, Elegance, Excitement, Presentation, and Overall. You will also provide at least 2 sentences of written feedback. Your scores and feedback will be shared with the entrant, you may choose to remain anonymous to the entrant.

It takes approximately 5 minutes to judge one submission. You can judge as many as you like, every response helps.

The top games from round one will move on to round two. In round two entrants submit a rules pdf and a how to play video. The judging process for round two is similar to round one except that you will provide at least 4 sentences of feedback. Judging round two is a more time consuming process based on the length of the rules and video.

The top games from round two move on to round three. Entrants will submit a physical prototype of their game. Judging round three will take place in person and I hope to arrange a few different meetings for this.

Judging for round one will take place from May 1, 2019 to June 28, 2019.

Judging for round two will take place in August.

Judging for round three will take place in November.

You can not submit a game if you are a judge in the contest.
